Stundie I have seen 2 inch steel pipe melt in a wood fire, but the wind speeds that caused it were 80mph in a severe thunderstorm, left over from a hurricane. Stundie no it isn't you can have local effects like the tunnels and chimney effects that keep some sections combusting, those effects heat other sections to the combustion temperatures but because they are buried, they can not burn do to lack of oxygen. Molten metals cools when exposed to air, they lose heat rapidly as you have stated, carbons produce heat, and the tunnels, act to help create passages for air movements.
Logically carbons plastics would be the main fuel for the fires just like at the world trade center!
