So the majority of people who were banished were trollish truthers, but since that data doesn't fit tfk's bias, it's thrown out. Tfk needs his accusations to be true so they can reflect on his own bloated self-perception. Maybe tfk isn't omniscient, omnipotent. Maybe he's fallible. An insufferable pedant's nightmare.

It's not just technical research. "The Eleventh Day" was nominated for a Pullitzer, which would never have happened if it hadn't done the obligatory truther bashing.

The Eleventh Day, page 9 wrote:As late as 2010, though, an Angus Reid poll indicated that one in four Americans still thought 9/11 was “a fabrication designed to facilitate the campaign against terrorism.” This all reflects an epidemic of doubt and disbelief. It has been spread in part, to be sure, by conspiracy theorists—the “9/11 truth” movement, as it has become known—preaching to the gullible through the phenomenal influence and reach of the Internet.

But then:

The Eleventh Day, page 880 wrote:Kevin Fenton’s deconstruction of the roles of the CIA, the FBI, and the 9/11 Commission—soon to be published as this book went to press, but kindly made available to us by the author—is valuable and provocative. Paul Thompson’s encyclopedic The Terror Timeline and, above all, his “Complete 9/11 Timeline,” updated regularly on the Net, were indispensable. The author Peter Dale Scott has taken his scalpel to the jugular of the story of President Bush and the aides who surrounded him. On the “skeptical” front, we thank author Daniel Hopsicker, investigator of the hijackers’ activities in Florida. He introduced us to Venice, shared his time unstintingly, and trusted us down the months—long after it became clear that where he saw conspiracy we saw coincidence or happenstance. There was something to be learned, as in the past, from John Judge, a veteran of alternative history in Washington, D.C.

Which prompted me to give Anthony Summers "the virtual finger" for his cowardly opportunism. Happily extended to Tom/tfk.

Exactly. Once trapped within a false choice where else is there to go? Harden themselves into an "us" or jump over to the evil "them"? No third option.

People dig themselves into protective bunkers of false certainty. The more one digs, the more black and white the world becomes to them.

On a more sympathetic note, imagine trading places. If one day he catches a sobering glimpse in the mirror, Ouch!

There is so much ice to thaw.

The gorgon removed her britches? Ugh, that must have been a horrific sight.

Oh, removed breaches.

W.D. Clinger earns his slot in Just Plain Idiots...

...although the "back-slapping, in-bred, rah-rah" part sounds accurate.

When are you ever going to learn to shut up? Your opportunity to quit while you were ahead was lost at least a year ago.

Rah, rah STFU. You are outside of your field of expertise - which, as I can tell, is nothing.

And your OCD bolding of member names is not courteous and refined, it's OCD. Don't bother putting a 'reason for edit' in your posts, oh anal retentive one, because no one cares.

This is for EVERYONE who thinks running at a brisk clip on the hamster wheel is productive and useful. Well, it's not. It's bad for your health, too. Have a cigarette. Go have unprotected sex with that tranny who's been winking at you every night from a corner in the ugly part of town you pass through briefly on your way home from your Six Sigma job. It's safer, it's more wholesome.

Yeah? There was a certain continuity about it. That's why I saved its spot.

Sorry my posting record lately has basically been a broken record, but add BasqueArch to the list:

It sounds like you're sore someone suggests your charts can be improved by others.
Other people understand what I'm driving at.
I'm not going to ping-pong this thing with you until they're bored to tears.

Oooh, let's add a dash of condescension to the raw stupid, shall we?

The only other person participating (at this time) in the discussion between BasqueArch and femr2 is Oystein, and Oystein gets it, and what Oystein gets is that femr2 is right.

I want some of that data-fixing juice that BasqueArch has in his medicine cabinet.

(Is it a foregone conclusion that femr2's point about the motion possibly being only apparently vertical will never get processed over there, where it would barely be necessary to state such over here, except for the sake of completeness to satisfy non-native nitpickers?)

Prediction:

NO ONE (neither truthers, but I'm not talking about them) will take BasqueArch to task for his schoolboy errors and literally fantastical lack of understanding of basic data processing. Oystein has already gently attempted a correction, to no avail, but I'm not talking about Oystein, either. I'm talking about the usual gang of regulars, numbering in the hundreds, who are on standby to jump all over some ridiculous nonsense like that should it be uttered by a truther.

BasqueArch has shown incompetence on this particular subject virtually indistinguishable from C7's. But BasqueArch has standing. Simply follow the difference in treatment for an uncharacteristically precise study in the sociological domain: rarely is it possible to observe cognitive bias so exactly as a result of accidental circumstance. Yes, it is the blind watchmaker in action. The lord works in mysterious ways.

Yes you can draw a straight line thought the precollapse data with a ruler and pencil, but what line would you draw afterwards.

<snip>

I believe the question of whether the present acceleration line can be improved (in concept and assuming the first 5 seconds are near 0 for displacement) can be answered by WDClinger between beers.

Chortle, chortle, yuk, yuk.

God, this is so far gone it isn't worth the words to explain.

Will I get the goddamned million dollar prize for predicting BasqueArch WILL NOT be mocked by debunkers for this? No? Because my prediction is based on the scientific method and not psychic prowess?

Oh really? Please explain.

There certainly ARE things which could be done to improve acceleration derivations. Correctly resolving 3D motion of the deforming exterior, in total, is one obvious thing. Having 1D or 2D dynamics in the image plane with a simple scalar transformation to real world rectilinear coordinates - as femr2 has done it - is not only good enough, it's far better than anything else which has been done. Still, it can be improved - but not by stumbling, clueless people like BasqueArch.

The problem is that the domain of quality of this measurement is already at the 97% mark of diminishing returns.
